La Voyageuse

TAILOR MADE TRAVEL

by Nadine Strittmatter

Designed by Viennese architect Rudolf Schindler in 1922, this minimalist masterpiece was originally built for communal living and embodies a radical vision of space. Its stucco exterior and redwood detailing, indoor-outdoor flow create a serene, intimate atmosphere. Rooms blend with garden patios, and sliding doors invite the Southern Californian light inside.

The MAK Center for Art & Architecture, its current steward, hosts exhibitions and events that breathe life into the space’s avant-garde spirit. For architecture lovers and curious travelers alike, the Schindler House is an inspiring glimpse into a century of innovative design and bold living and inspires me every time I visit it.
